چکیده

Mudstone samples from the Moreno (Upper Cretaceous-Paleocene) and Kreyenhagen (Eocene) formations are analysed using X-ray diffraction (XRD) fluorescence (XRF) to determine their mineralogy. Smectite (Reichweite R0) is predominant phyllosilicate present, 48% 71.7% bulk rock mineralogy (excluding carbonate cemented highly bio siliceous samples) 70% 98% of <2 μm clay fraction. Opal CT less so cristobalite concentrations cause main deviations smectite dominance. A common only in Upper Kreyenhagen. In fraction, Fm significantly more smectite-rich than Fm. was derived alteration volcaniclastic debris contemporaneous rhyolitic-dacitic magmatic arc volcanism. No tuff preserved. intense sub-tropical weathering granitoid-dioritic terrane during hypothermal period early mid-Eocene; derivation local volcanism unlikely. All had chemical indices (CIA) indicative source terrane. Ferriferous enrichment occurrence locally kaolinite contributory evidence for intensity weathering. Low concentration (max. 7.5%) clinoptilolite Lower possibly open marine conditions There no volumetrically significant silicate diagenesis. The diagenetic mineralisation restricted low-temperature silica phase transitions.

Analysis of ozone in the San Joaquin Valley of California

The dynamics of ozone in the San Joaquin Valley of central California are studied by systematic diagnostic runs of the three-dimensional SARMAP Air Quality Model. Air quality in the San Joaquin Valley is the result of a complex combination of local and transported emissions. Simulations show that relatively brisk winds at points of in#ow to the Valley produce a strong dependence of ozone in the...

Sustainability of irrigated agriculture in the San Joaquin Valley, California.

The sustainability of irrigated agriculture in many arid and semiarid areas of the world is at risk because of a combination of several interrelated factors, including lack of fresh water, lack of drainage, the presence of high water tables, and salinization of soil and groundwater resources. Nowhere in the United States are these issues more apparent than in the San Joaquin Valley of Californi...

Provenance of the Upper Cretaceous to Eocene Gosau Group around and beneath the Vienna Basin (Austria and Slovakia)

Chemistry of detrital garnets, chrome spinels and tourmalines of 30 selected samples in combination with the general heavy mineral distribution from 523 sandstone samples of the Upper Cretaceous to Eocene Gosau Group of the eastern part of the Eastern Alps and the western West Carpathians result in an advanced picture of sedimentary provenance and palaeogeographic evolution of that area. Garnet...

Traffic-related air pollution and selected birth defects in the San Joaquin Valley of California.

BACKGROUND Birth defects are a leading cause of infant morbidity and mortality. Studies suggest associations between environmental contaminants and some structural anomalies, although evidence is limited and several anomalies have not been investigated previously. METHODS We used data from the California Center of the National Birth Defects Prevention Study and the Children's Health and Air P...

Regional nitrate and pesticide trends in ground water in the eastern San Joaquin Valley, California.

Protection of ground water for present and future use requires monitoring and understanding of the mechanisms controlling long-term quality of ground water. In this study, spatial and temporal trends in concentrations of nitrate and pesticides in ground water in the eastern San Joaquin Valley, California, were evaluated to determine the long-term effects of agricultural and urban development on...
